This was our 2nd trip to Cape San Blas for our family vacation and once again we LOVED it! Barrier Dunes is a great family oriented place to stay and the Dawg House did not disappoint! Very convenient to the beach and had everything we needed. The only complaint I had, if you even consider this a complaint, is that there were A LOT of the owner's trinkets and breakable items sitting around and with a 5 year old, it made me kind of nervous we were going to have an accident. But all was good. If your family is considering Cape San Blas for a relaxing vacation, in a safe family setting, this is your place!
We enjoy Barrier Dunes, and have been guests there on a previous occasion. Pet friendly is such a great idea. People who care enough to bring their pets typically have pets who are trained and well-behaved. Our only negative comment regards the squishy beds, difficult to sleep.
steps involved. She was not able to go in and out alot so the view was at least good for her. The talbe chairs were ot very sturdy and felt like they were going to break at any given time. THe cleaning crew needs to do a better job as they are being paid but the unit was extremely dusty, nice decor however, dusty. The grill shorted out and tripped a breaker that had to be fixed and a new grill delivered, The dryer had to have a service call to it that took a while therefore laundry was a issue. I know this may seem like a lot but overall it was a perfect place to stay. Will be back to Cape San Blas.
The overall stay was great! Our labs loved the beach and had a wonderful time. We were surprised at how few area amenities such as restaraunts and grocery stores. We had to go into Port St. Joe several times during the week. But we do realize that the beauty of the area is the lack of busy shops and stores lining the streets. That was what we didn't want. I feel that one good grocery store like in Port St. Joe would be a big asset to the area as well as a couple of restaurants. As for the condition of the unit, the kitchen chairs in particular needed work. The legs were very loose on most. The grill did not work, or at least we didn't get an opportunity to try it because it kept flipping the breakers when it was plugged in. The dryer had problems and we had a service person out to look at it who said it was fine but nothing had changed. So some serious service work should be done before the next guest comes in. I gave a good rating on everything because the whole family really enjoyed the week and for 3 teens to enjoy an area without the "miracle stip shops" was quite an accomplishment!
This was our 4th year at Barrier Dunes and our 5th unit that we have stayed in. We had rented a weeks stay from another company and had such a great vacation that we wanted to stay a couple of extra days. Suzy was so helpful in finding us a place to stay for those extra 2 days that would accomodate our family of 4. The unit was fine, location great, but we probably would not stay in this unit again because there were so many personal belongings from the owner that we felt like we were intruding and didn't have much space for our own items. The kitchen is very small and there isn't a table to accomodate 4 people, we had to split up at the breakfast bar and table for 2. The unit was fairly clean, but the sinks in the master bath could have been cleaner...the mirror and toothbrush holder had toothpaste spatter on them. And, the living room sofas smelled of dog. It worked out for us for the short stay, but it would have been hard to manage for a whole week. We did have a wonderful experience with Coastal Joe and would definitely rent from them again, we'd just choose a different unit. Thanks for your help in allowing us to stay another 2 days...we ended up finding 120 scallops in the bay and had a feast!
This townhouse has a great location! Close to beach, pool and tennis court. However the towels were very low quality and there were not enough provided. The sliding door to the downstairs bedroom had a broken lock, and the fan was off balance and too loose to run which was a diappointment. The pots and pans were in average condition. Also, be sure to stock up on groceries before you arrive, there are no real grocery stores, but a few places to eat and buy great seafood. I would return again - relaxing, very dog friendly beach.
The place was great. Had a little problem with intermittant internet connection. Might have been the storm that moved through? Otherwise, the place was great, but not convieniently located to the harbor where out boat was being kept. If we come again, we will keep that in mind.
Great place to stay. It felt very welcoming. Met John the owner while we were there. What a nice guy. Coastal Joes very helpful
This was our first trip to Cape San Blas and it was all I could have hoped for!! The Dawg House was in excellent condition, very well decorated, and had the absolute perfect location!!! This is the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy the beautiful ocean views, gulf waters, pristine white sand, and uncrowded beaches!! We will definitely be back again! Thanks much to Coastal Joe Rentals and to the Dawg House owners!! You provided this Georgia family with one of its best vacations ever!
