I had a great time! I've been renting this home for many years and plan to come for many more. The livingroom couch and chairs are getting old and dirty and are in need of replacement. The curtains at the front door are filthy and should be replaced.

Having a great getaway from the cold northern weather. The weather so far has been exceptional; only a few days in the lower 50's, mainly averaging between 63 to 73 degrees. Only downfall, the owner should consider replacing the Teflon pots with stainless steel ones; the Teflon is worn out in the pots and gets in the food; and some of the handles are loose, not in good shape. Had the same problem last year, I brought a few of my own to use during our stay this year, as our stay is long and can get expensive to eat out every day. The rental agent are great people, they go out of their way to please you and meet all of your needs; I give them a 10. Highly recommend getting a rental through Coastal Joe Vacation Rental.

Had issues when we first arrived, had a very bad tenant in prior to our coming that would not leave and left the place in terrible condition. Coastal Joe Vacation Rental were excellent in clearing up and repairing damages done to the place. They put us in another place, till our rental was ready, and worked with us very quickly in repairing other damages that we found from the other tenant, like the shower floor was cracked and leaking and they had it repaired within the week and you can't even tell it was damaged; excellent job. We were just inconvenienced for a few days, but in general the remainder of our stay is good. Here till April, if we have any further issues, I know Coastal Joe will work rapidly with us to make our stay the best. I'd like to say thank you to the owner for changing the TV, it works great and the 40 inch TV complements the place very nice; a thumbs up for you.

We have been scalloping St. Joe Bay for 35-40 years - from the Scallop Cove Villas for most of them. We kept coming back for the convenience of the bayfront access and boat dock, and the reasonable price of the facilities. Progressively, for the last few years, the scalloping adventure has been steadily declining. 2017 - the season in the bay was never even opened. We are considering going elsewhere next year. I will miss the cabins.

Manager's Response

The 2017 season was postponed earlier this year due to a naturally occurring algae bloom in St. Joseph Bay impacting shellfish. Scallop season will be open for 16 days from September 23rd to October 8th. Sounds like you may need to make a last minute trip back to CSB!

My Husband and I have vacationed at Scallop Cove for over 25 years and have stayed in all of the homes more then once. When we found out that #5 allowed pets we decided to rent that home and have for approximately 10 years. The staff at Coastal Joe Vacation Rentals are very professional and accommodating but the home is in need of new living and dining room furniture, the pots and pans are rusty and the shower needs to be replaced (It feels like it is going to fall through the floor). With that said I will be back next year for another peaceful week at Scallop Cove. Thank you Coastal Joe for making me feel welcomed on the Cape!

Manager's Response

Thank you for coming back year after year. We will take all of your suggestions and work on getting this home in better shape for your next visit!

Really enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay again. Villa was adequate, really enjoyed the screened in deck and got much use from the dock (fishing, kayaking, enjoying frosty beverages, etc. ) Short walk to the beach. Bait shop and well stocked store on the property(I didn't have to drive anywhere for 4 days after I got there) . Not commercialized and friendly southern neighbors.

One of our best vacations ever. The villa is not real big but it actually ended up being perfectly fine for our party of five. The unit was clean and ideally located on the Cape. It's a 1 min walk to beach, stores, and everything you need for an enjoyable week. We rented bikes from San Flea rentals (all new bikes and great owners) several times and took advantage of bike path that runs the entire length of the cape. The only complaint that we had was with the TV. It was small and a little dated.

Everything was great, had a very enjoyable time during our 10 week stay, weather was terrific. Only down fall, very small TV, old and couldn't get it to work, needs a decoder I'm told to watch HDTV; brought my own. Also short on pans, the tfal in the ones there were all scratched, couldn't cook with them. Had to buy pots while there and brought them back with me.

our stay is for 10 weeks, loving it so far. Rental agent is great, they've been the best we had since we have been coming. Prestine was so, so and Cape San Blas vacation Rentals don't clue you in to extra fees, like you pay extra for sheets and so on, and if you have issues like a burnt light outside, they wouldn't replace it till 10 days before we left to go back home. Coastal Joe has been amazing, everything is included in with the Rental fees, sheets, towels and so on. We rented unit 1 for 2 years and had headaches trying to get anything done; this is our 2nd year renting unit 5 and it's been great. The only downfall is the 19 inch TV is hard to see across the room, I brought mine down this year. You should talk to owner to get a larger TV. Keep it up.

Manager's Response

This is wonderful to hear. Thank you for the feedback and the suggestion on the TV. Definitely something worth passing on to the owner.

Scallop Cove in general is a wonderful place to stay. We have stayed in many of the cabins, but this one, #5 was very disappointing. Coastal Joe allowed us to get in one hour early, which was awesome. However, the property was dirty and several things were broken. The kitchen sink was stained and disgusting. We did not call and report these things, mainly because we didn't want people trampsing through while we were not there. We will stay at Scallop Cove again next year, just not this one. I do say, it would be nice if the realtors compinsated dissatisfied renters in some way, as a nice gesture. Even a gift card to a local restaurant or a free bike rental would show their generosity.

Manager's Response

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate renters letting us know about things in the home that are unsatisfactory. If you could email us the specific things that were broken that would be very helpful as we don't live in the homes or even stay there for longer than it takes to clean and inspect in-between guests. We rely on our guests to report issues so we can attend to them. We will take a look at this Villa and give it the attention it needs.

Great location, loved the layout of the place. Plenty of "outside" seating to enjoy a beautiful sunrise every morning.

A private boardwalk that leads to the Gulf; lounge chairs & umbrellas are set up on the beach on a daily basis. Just walk across the street from the rental driveway!
You would never know there were the following shops; Convenience/Gas station, Bait/Tackle shop and Beach Planet souvenir shop all located in front of property. Really liked that for ease.
Adjacent to the property was a small building for laundry (1 washer & 2 dryers) need to have quarters.

The scallop cove villas was an inexpensive and adequate option for a stay in cape san blas. Good location the property is well maintained and a good beach access across the street. There are small details that could be improved upon- the internet satellite tv frequently fails- important for telecommuting or dealing with the frequent bad weather days of the cape- the furniture and cookware seem to be a bit worn and the owners should consider replacing- there is no recycling on the property- inexcusable in this day and age to not encourage guests to recycle - yall make your living from the unspoiled beauty of the cape and should respect it. Lastly when we arrived the place smelled a bit like dirty mop water. All in all this was a good value for what it is. There is a little room for improvement but was a good place to stay in a pinch

This was our first time to Cape San Blas. The morning view is indescribable. I have always had an ocean view by choice, when visiting the ocean so wasn't sure what being bayside would be like. I almost like it better. Being able to walk the dock with my coffee and watch the sun rise was my favorite part. The cottage had all your essentials, the bed was comfy, the tv worked, hot water never ran out, plenty of space to "move into" if you don't like living out of your suitcase and overall just right. My husband and I really enjoyed the cape.

We enjoyed are stay tremendously. The cabin was clean, and adequate with space for our family. The dock is a short dash across the yard, easy access for fishing and kayaks. The back yard area was perfect for our kids to run and play in, and scallop cove was short walk away. Thank you for providing a nice little escape from reality! We will be back.

We have been going to Cape San Blas for at least 25 years now. Most of the time we have stayed at the Scallop Cove Villas. It is really in a great place, with the store sooo close for all those urgent items we forgot!! There is an easy access to the gulf across the street which is great. Lots of activites you can do like biking, canoeing, paddle boarding too! It's a great place at Scallop Cove, the cabins are clean and nice and quiet. We look foward to going every year. Definately recommend it!

Overall, we were very pleased. The villa was much smaller than we thought, but we made it work. There's not much to the kitchen as far as pots, pans, and cooking utensils, so preparing meals was a little difficult. The living area was a little uncomfortable for all of us to sit together. However, we didn't go on vacation to sit in the living room! There is very little space between the bed and the walls, and being 6 months pregnant, that was also a little uncomfortable. There was no dish detergent to wash the dishes and only one roll of toilet paper. We were a little upset about that, so bring your own. No washer and dryer, but there is a laundry mat within walking distance. The location was great and the view was spectacular. Overall, we were pleased.

The house was comfortable for our family of 5. Great location for bay side stayers. The furniture was strained and we covered it all with towels because who knows what those stains are. The dock is not a fishing dock but good for crabbing and scallopping. It was great to have outdoor furniture on the screened in porch because those little no see sums are terrible bay side. Overall good stay.

This was our first visit to the Cape. We like the more out of the way beaches that are less popular. While gaining in popularity, the Cape fits the bill. These cottages remind me of fish camps that you see around the inland rivers and bays of the Gulf Coast. However these are no fish camp cabin. They are quite nice. We were there during the third week in October which also happens be the best time of the year to fish the local waters (pompano, reds, trout, flounder). The cottage we were in, Scallop Cove #5, was cozy at just under 500 square feet but it was comfortable. Let's face it you aren't here to hang out inside. There is a nice and also necessary screened porch with a ceiling fan to enjoy your morning beverage while watching the sunrise as well as an exposed deck with picnic table. I would rcommend giving the cottage a go. There is a dock on the bay across the yard and if you rent kayaks from Scallop Cove you keep them on the dock. The Scallop Cove convenience store is behind you, between you and the beach. There is a bait shop, laundry, cafe, and of course gas. You won't be disappointed.

We have been coming to Scallop Cove for over 20 years and have stayed in all 6 of the homes throughout the years prior to the renovations and after. It is our absolute favorite place to stay on the cape. Within the past 2 years we have noticed a decline in the upkeep/maintenance of #5. The living room furniture has never been comfortable to sit on but we overlook it. The chairs are filthy and have torn upholstry (We have had to put sheets on them to cover them up so we can sit on them). Some of the kitchen baking pans are rusted out. The gasket on the bottom of the shower door hangs down and does not keep water from coming out onto the bathroom floor. The shower handle is wobbly and the kitchen faucet has a constant drip. The thermostat to the hot water heater should be turned down a few degrees. The water is scalding when turned on. The screen door is misaligned so you have to slam it to close.

We will continue coming to Scallop Cove #5 but would like the following addressed so that our stay and everyone else who stays there are more comfortable in our vacation destination on the Cape.

Everything is great, great location, wonderful view, great weather; would definitely come back. The problem with the internet was taken care of, corroded wires was the problem and same with outside light, it was repaired for same reason, corroded wires. The place was great, but I think it would be crowded if you have 4 people. 3 people is the most you'd want to have if you are staying for a long period of time. We stayed 8 weeks. I'd imagine the weather here in the summer must be fantastic; but I'd say, make sure you bring bug spray for NOSEEUM'S they do get bad at dusk, you'd definitely need protection. Thanks for letting us have the use of your place, greatly appreciated. Carole C.

This was a great property. You are very close to neighbors. The property states it sleeps 6, but there were only 2 adults in our party and it was just the right size. I think if more than 2 stayed here, everyone would have to REALLY like each other. There was too much furniture in the house and we ended up re-arranging and moving a lot of extra chairs into the 2nd bedroom. The master bed was small and hard. No dishwasher. The shower has very little water pressure. The TV is tiny. The screened porch is very nice and spacious. There is also a deck portion that is not screened and it has a gate to close it off which is great if you have dogs (which are allowed). When we got there, the previous tenants had set the ice maker to on and the freezer was overflowing with ice. Also, they had set the fridge the lowest setting which we did not realize until our groceries were in there for one day and froze. The A/C works great. There is a nice grassy area that the cabin looks over and into the bay. It would be nice if they installed a doggy station with a trash can and poop bags. Tenants have bay and beach access which is convenient. Wi-Fi works great. Each cabin was allotted two parking spaces, but most days someone we did not know was using our extra space. Because of the bay access, many people on the cape will use the Scallop Cove dock to get into the bay. This is a little annoying because it increases traffic around the cabins. Overall it was a cute little place that was perfect for my spouse and our dog.

The rental experience was great with Coastal Joe but the unit has fleas, dog food under the bed and dog hair on the floor and furniture-we don't have dogs. We chose this unit for the convenience which is great. We understood the unit is Pet Friendly, but expected the unit to be clean and flea free. It was much cleaner when we left than when we arrived. The extra blankets also smelled like wet dog so we laundered them. The unit is great and has great amenities, but we learned our lesson and will not stay in a Pet Friendly unit again. We have vacationed each year at the Cape for over 30 years with an annual family reunion and rent 10-12 homes out there. This was our first experience with one that accepts pets.

We love to come to Scallop Cove! We have been coming for the past 20 years and have stayed in everyone of the units! The property is in an excellent location. The lawn is well maintained.

The unit was in fairly good shape. We loved the new sofa but the two charis in the livingroom have seen better days and were filthy. I had to put a blanket over them so we could sit on them.

The cover to the hood on the microwave fell off the first day and there wasn't any glass in the coffee table. I spoke to Mary about this.

The floors were filthy with glass shards(from the coffee table glass?), hair and sand. I swept them up throughout the week.

Nice place and location. Management needs to do a better job keeping the place up to a comfortable standard.
Pros: Great view, cell coverage, and comfortable bed.
Cons: No cereal/soup bowls, dirty chairs, rusty dish drainer, bad bed cover in main bedroom, no rugs. The kitchen light was burned out so we ask for a new bulb at the office and they said they didn't have one and will send someone over the next day, well we found a 40W in a lamp and put that in but no one ever came by with a 100w the week we were there, so dim lighting.

Had a great trip as always. Have been staying at Scallop cove just about annually for 15 yrs, renting 1, 4, 5, & 6. Have rented 5 more times than any of the other. Love the location and set up. Made suggestion about getting some wine glasses as there were none. Only had 4 mismatched glass glasses period. Master bed was comfortable, sheets nice, but the white bedspread was past its life with old blood stains, and 'other' type stains that were fresher than I care to comment on, and the quilting was showing large tears. Kitchen pretty well stocked for usable items. Sleeper sofa probably needs to be replaced as when you sit, you sink..... If nothing else, the upholstery on it and the chairs needs to be cleaned. We have rental property too and I know what a headache it can be to keep it on the upside, especially with the type of usage #5 gets. Overall, we still love the place and we will still continue to come as time and money allow. Interesting note. We used to rent 1 or 6 for $600 back in the earlier days. Hurricanes and taxes have hurt everyone. Until next year!!!

Thanks to Coastal Joe Team, our extended weekend was awesome. Cape San Blas is THE ultimate location for a no-nonsense, pure and undisturbed holiday.Your dog will love you more than ever.

Not cleaned very well. My brother was on the porch of the scallop he was renting. He saw the cleaning ladies go in and giggle as they said " you clean as fast as I do". They were in the scallop about 10 minute.

Renting at the last minute I was just happy to get a place at a reasonable cost. Other than the toilet, sinks, range, and floor not being swept every thing was pretty good. I would also fix the exterior lights. Didn't realize until packing up to leave that they weren't working.

Manager's Response

Renters had just checked out when you arrived and wanted to check-in. We did tell you that it would need to be cleaned and this took about 1 hr and 30 minutes, not 10 minutes to clean. There are 6 units there so perhaps your brother was confused with another unit.

I've been staying a week in (one of the 6) Scallop Cove Cabins nearly as long as they have been there. This year, #5 was somewhat disappointing. The driveway light didn't work, which was tough for late arrivals. The screened porch door closer was broken = mosquito problems. The refrigerator ice-maker leaked into the food. But, worst of all, the toilet did not regularly flush (especially 'inconvenient' with four occupants). For over $1200 a week, in a depressed economy, this is becoming unacceptable. At least the weather was fair, and the scalloping was good!

Manager's Response

Thank you for the feedback. This review again illustrates how imperative it is that renters call and report problems during their stay. That is what we are here for but if the problems are not reported than we can not correct the issues. We do not stay in these homes so Coastal Joe would not be flushing toilets or using the ice maker. The issues the renter experienced have been given to our maintenance person and will be addressed prior to the next person's arrival at Scallop Cove.

The rental is in a great location to take advantage of the Cape San Blas pennisula. It was also spotless, which is certainly a number one priority. However, we would not want to stay in #5 again unless there were furniture updates. The living room furniture was so worn out that it was uncomfortable to sit on. There should also be a grill available for guest use; not the tiny thing in the closet that did not even have legs.

We have stayed in the scallop cove villas for 8 years and have LOVED every one of them. Scallop cove provides the best of both worlds...bayfront with boat dock and a very short walk to beach. It also great the convient store and bait store are right at your back door. It is always very clean.

We were very pleased with our experience. The cottage is an especially good location for bringing your pet. There is a huge yard which is well away from the road and access to the beach is very convenient. The view of the bay is lovely -- we enjoyed watching herons and egrets and the sunrise over the bay is beautiful. The cottage is well equipt although the couch springs are worn out so the couch is a bit uncomfortable. The only thing missing was a good spatula! Hardly a deal breaker. We love the isolation of the cape although I imagine it's busier later in the year. If you want to stay in a hopping place with lots of bars and restaurants, this isn't the place for you. The beach is the most beautiful I believe I've ever seen.

My family and I traveled to Cape San Blas in hopes of catching a few scallops on the last weekend of the season. There are only 4 of us and the Villa worked out just great. It has a very nice dock and provided easy access to the Bay. Based on the fun that we had this year, I am sure we will be reserving the unit for next year.

There are six cabins at Scallop Cove. Over the years, I have stayed in each. The up-keep and general condition of #5, though acceptable was NOT up to par with the others (based on past visits). This was, however, offset by a lower asking price for the week. In this economy, this was a fair trade-off for me. The scalloping was GREAT this year! (AUG 2009)

We had a woderful time at Scallop Cove #5. We were able to keep the boat at the dock and walk over to the Gulf, it was the best of both worlds. We will be back next year!

Everything was great except that great big yard to play on and way tooo many red ants. Don't stand in one place on the lawn very long. I usually took the boardwalk around which was cool. Take care of this issue and it would have been perfect all the way around. Thanks

Most wonderful trip to fla. since I was 5Yrs old. Best trip Robin or the children have ever taken to Fla. and they usually go to Fla. 5 or 6 times a year.

The power was off the first 7 hours but Scott was very accomadating and it turned out to be no problem. and the power being off was no fault of Coastal Joes. The only reason that that I would be apperhensive about to many people knowing what a wonderful visit we ALWAYS on the Cape, is fear people will find out what a wonderful secret ya ll have down there. I might lose my Paradise!!! I would hate calling to find out ya ll have no vacancys. Can t wait for off season rates!! Call when they are avalible.

For a less expensive, bay side rental, this unit was very nice. The interior was updated and modern with all the basics. The view of the bay is gorgeous and the dock is a nice extra, along with the huge backyard. (lg, flat grassy area - great for dogs and kids to play) Space in the bedrooms is tight. No bedroom closets and no room for luggage on the floor. The screened in porch and deck are a nice size.

Our party of four, with a 1 yr old baby and dog, selected this spot because it allowed pets and had availability in mid August for 3 nights. It's location facing the bay is convenient, especially if you fish and have a boat which can be tied up to the dock behind the cottages.
Gulf access is immediately across the road and it has a beautiful beach. The state park a few miles down the road is awesome! The cottage was functional and well equipped, but the back deck and screened porch are just a few feet from adjacent cottage, so you should hope for good neighbors while you are there. Only negatives to the cottage itself were a coffee maker that needed major cleaning, a tv and cable that never worked even though the on-duty manager immediately attempted to correct the problem. Although we would not normally have concerns over a lack of cable tv, it was an issue with our party because the Olympics were on.
I would not recommend this rental to family or friends simply because the decks and porches of each cottage are so close to each other combined with the uncertainty of not knowing whether or not your immediate neighbors will turn out to be responsible adults.
