Barnacle Cottage

What looked like a great place to stay turned out to be riddled with disappointments. First, we were told when we arrived that FedEx didn’t drop off a part for the WiFi that morning and we were without WiFi the entire week. Next, when we headed to the beach we walked the private path and came upon wood, nails, trash along the steps that were being redone. The pathway was only partially finished. It had been torn down and the new construction was not complete. We were able to jump over to the existing path (luckily nobody fell) to continue to the beach. We used this broken path until Wednesday (3rd to last day) and then on Thursday the crew tore down the existing path without finishing a path to access the beach! The only way we could get to the beach was by driving to the end of the road near the campground and use that access to the beach which was a half mile down the road! There were also notes on many descriptions of rules forbidding the use of self tanners because it was destroying linens and towels. We used no self tanning or bronzer lotions, and there was a red ironlike stain in the bathtub. After I showered and dried off, rusty stains were found on my legs and then rubbed off onto the towels. The only thing that could come from was the water with iron in it. In the pictures it showed bikes, and we were looking forward to evening bike rides, but there were no bikes there. All of these things were brought up to the owners, but excuses were made for all of it and these things affected our overall stay. We spent a lot of money to be treated this unfairly. If they were trying to remodel things and go to a new rental company ( we booked them from VRBO) they should have alerted us to this and gave us a chance to get our money back. Very bad experience. We loved the area and the beach, but the accommodations were lacking in many ways.
